Florida Atlantic Football landed a former 4 star recruit via the transfer portal earlier last week. Former Kansas Cornerback and Pensacola native Damarius McGhee announced he would be headed to FAU as a Graduate Transfer.
A 6 ‘0 175 pound Pensacola Catholic High School Alumni, McGhee is headed into his 5th season of collegiate football, spending the first 2 seasons of his career at LSU in 2021 & 2022, before spending the past 2 seasons at Kansas.
McGhee was a top 90 recruit as a freshman out of Pensacola Catholic and proved that ranking true right away, playing in 12 games as a freshman at LSU, including a bowl game start against Kansas State where he recorded 5 tackles.
The following season at LSU, McGhee appeared in just one game and opted to enter the transfer portal at the conclusion of the year, going to Kansas where he spent the last 2 seasons.
In his first year at Kansas in 2023, McGhee played in just 2 games due to a back injury, recording a tackle in a majority special teams role, however in 2024 he played in 6 games with 62 total snaps at cornerback, recording 8 total tackles.
After serving in mainly a backup role over the past 2 seasons, McGhee opted to enter the transfer portal on July 2nd and committed to paradise 16 days later on the 18th, entering a CB room with a chance to earn a starting role.
Out of High School, Andrew Ivins of 247 sports analyzed McGhee as a future 4th-7th round prospect with a comparison to Maurice Canady formerly of the Baltimore Ravens, noting a 4.56 40 time and mentioning his potential to one day play in the NFL.
“One of the more intriguing defensive back prospects in the Sunshine State this cycle, (McGhee) has the profile of someone that could eventually play on Sundays,” Ivins said in 2020.
McGhee potentially will be one of the last, if not the last, additions to the Owls out of the transfer portal as Fall camp is set to begin in a couple of weeks.
